This festival is celebrated on the day of Sunset Kalik Ashadh Shukla Ekadashi. This day is the beginning of Chaturmas which starts when Sun enters in Gemini. From this day onwards Lord Shri Hari Vishnu sleeps in Kshir sagar and then after about four months, wakes up when the Sun enters Libra. That day is called Devotthani Ekadashi. This period of four months is called Chaturmas. During this period, marriage and all the auspicious work are not preferable. This Ekadashi is also known as Devshayani, Harishayani and Padmanabha Ekadashi.
